I woke up this morning to a puddle of blood in Cash’s dog bed. It freaked me out, but at least the blood is dry. I found the incision where it’s coming from and it appears to have stopped or at least slowed down to almost nothing. Of course this happens on a Sunday when my vet’s office is closed. They do have an emergency office I could bring him to if necessary, but I think he’s okay for now since the bleeding stopped. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain right now. I’ll call my vet’s office tomorrow and let them know what happened and see what they want to do about it.
Oh no! I understand how upsetting this can be. When my pup had surgery she ended up with an infection afterwards at one of her incision sites -and it was also on a weekend. I instinctively put hot (very warm) compresses on it all day and night which kept it clean and helped it to drain. It looked gross cuz lots of gunk kept coming out of it – but it was a good thing and it actually made her feel better. I just used white pieces of towels ( avoiding the dye in the towels if possible) and rinsed them every 20 -30 minutes or so. It really seemed to help. Maybe that can help a little. I’ll keep you both in my prayers.

I see how that could be disconcerting. my work of advice: not unless it’s life threatening, avoid the emergency vet. They usually cost a couple hundred dollars for you (and your dog) to walk through the door. then, the cost goes up from there. so if cash doesn’t appear to majorly uncomfortable and bleeding has stopped, call you vet first thing monday morning.
oh, and is the blown stitch in an itch zone, somewhere he can itch? you might see what you can rig to protect the area.
